NORTHERN MARMARA MOTORWAY WORKS HAVE BEEN VIEWED FROM AIR.

85% of the works have been completed on the Northern Marmara Motorway, which is a first in the world with tunnels where 4 vehicles can pass side by side by connecting two continents.

The works in the Kocaeli section, which have been expedited with the order of Mehmet Cahit Turhan, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, continue at full speed and will be completed and put into service on December 21, 2020.

Most of the colossal viaducts and tunnels have been completed and asphalting works have been initiated in the Kocaeli section of the Northern Marmara Motorway, which will have a total of 430 kilometers of roads when completed.

In the project, whose total cost is 13.6 billion TL, the intensively ongoing works have been viewed from air.

At the inauguration where the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had also participated with a live broadcast connection, the 4th Section and Dilovası Port and Sevindikli Intersections had been opened by Cahit Turhan, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.

On the 48.72 km of motorway section between the Dilovası-Port Road connection on the 5th section of the motorway and Sakarya, the Çayırköy Intersection, which shall provide the connection of the vehicles coming from Kandıra to the motorway, has been completed to the large extent and the installation of the toll booths have been made.

Within the scope of the Works continuing at full speed, the asphalt paving operations are still ongoing. In the aerial viewing of the works, it has been seen in the fifth part that while the works in the tunnels have been finished on one side, the filling and asphalting works still continued on the other side.

With the works to be completed on December 21, 2020, an uninterrupted transportation shall be provided from Çatalca, on the European Side of Istanbul to the Akyazı district in Sakarya.

 

SHALL EASE THE TRAFFIC

As part of the Project, 14 intersections in the European section and 29 intersections in the Anatolian section have been placed on the Northern Marmara Motorway.

In the project, which is expected to be completed in 2020, the drivers who will enter the motorway from Silivri shall be connected to the TEM motorway from Akyazı after crossing the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.

The project shall include 8 tunnels, 30 viaducts, 143 bridges, 96 underpasses, 73 overpasses, 600 culverts in total. By providing transportation of Trakya region to Istanbul on the European side, easing the in city traffic with the help of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and the connection roads, the Project has been targeted to reduce the traffic density on the July 15 Martyrs Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge as well as the density in Sakarya and Kocaeli sections, which provide the transportation of Anatolia to Istanbul.

The Northern Marmara Motorway, which will connect the two continents and provide great relief in transportation, shall make an indelible impression with its structures, unprecedented in the world.

The 4-lane tunnels to be constructed in Dilovası Port Intersection-İzmit section of the Project shall bear feature of being the widest tunnels in the world.

In the 5th section of the Project, which is located between the Port Connection Road of the Northern Marmara Motorway and İzmit, which will have a length of 52 kilometers; 5 tunnels, 6 viaducts and 2 bridges shall be situated.

The road starting from the Port Connection Road will pass through the Sevindikli Neighborhood of Körfez district and will be connected to the TEM motorway at the İzmit East Intersection.

A GIANT SIZE OPERATION

As the earthworks have been totally completed on the Northern Marmara Motorway, which shall ease the transportation between Europe and Asia continents, 164 million cubic meters of excavation and 105 million cubic meters of filling have been made during the works.

In the project where 715 thousand meters long concrete pile work has been done, 8.5 million cubic meters of concrete and 994 thousand tons of iron have been utilized.

PLANTS SHALL ORNAMENT

Within the scope of the project, vegetation of the European and Asian side of the motorway has been planned.

Within the scope of the project, a total of 380 thousand plants consisting of 80 thousand trees and 300 thousand bushes are aimed to be planted around the motorway on the European side, whereas a total of 780 thousand plants, consisting of 210 thousand trees and 580 thousand bushes, shall be planted on the Asian route.

Within the scope of the project, plantation of a total of 1 million 160 thousand plants shall be realized with the landscape works.
